Hip, Hip, Hooray! For Superworm’s 10th Birthday
Superworm, the character from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved book turns 10 years old this year. To celebrate, head to Grizedale and Whinlatter forests during the summer holidays and take part in a colouring competition to try and win a bundle of Superworm goodies and membership at your favourite forest!
The competition has two categories: children aged 3 years and under, and 4 to 6 years. And as well as getting creative and colourful with the picture, children can write super special birthday messages for Superworm too.
Whilst at Grizedale and Whinlatter, visitors can also enjoy a Superworm activity trail that encourages children to become heroes of the forest themselves. Families will discover brightly illustrated panels, packed with amazing activities designed to get children thinking about these unsung heroes. And questions along the self-led trail will inspire children to think about the everyday heroic feats of the minibeasts of the woods and forests around them.
To take part in the competition, pick up a colouring sheet during your visit, then either send your super creations using the Freepost address on the sheet, or simply take a photo and email the wonderful artwork to Forestry England.
Special Superworm trail packs are also available to buy from both forests for £3.50 with additional activities, including stickers, a superhero mask, creature fact cards, at-home activity sheet, pencil and crayons.
The Superworm trail can be found at 26 of the nation’s forests and offer a great value summer day out! For more details please visit www.forestryengland.uk/superworm
