Experience a “taste of Cumbrian history” at unique dining event in Keswick

The Skiddaw Hotel in Keswick prepares to take guests on a journey through time as it announces its next Skiddaw Dining Club event with a local celebrity ‘A Taste of History: The Cumbrian Food Experience’.

The unique event, which is to be held in Brasserie 31 on Thursday 19th September, marks the Dining Club's first gathering since June, following a summer hiatus. The comeback event promises an educational evening full of historical facts, interesting surprises and a 5-course truly Cumbrian tasting menu.

John Crouch, a celebrated Cumbrian chef and food history expert, will team up with the Skiddaw Hotel's own acclaimed chef, Bobby Fillingham, to deliver the perfect combination of knowledge and food to all guests who attend.

“The evening promises to be a true celebration of the great county of Cumbria!” said Bobby Fillingham. “John and I have worked closely together to plan a fascinating event that will be full of historical Cumbrian facts and engaging anecdotes, complemented by a high-quality tasting menu showcasing local produce that everyone will love.”

John Crouch is known for his Friday morning talks on BBC Radio Cumbria and his events with English Heritage, where he recreates historical recipes using authentic ingredients. His extensive knowledge and captivating presentation style will provide attendees with a fascinating look into the origins of Cumbrian cuisine, paired with a 5-course tasting menu that complements the story.

The specialist menu will take tastebuds on a tour of the region, featuring an eclectic range of dishes from the bay, the valley, the lake, the fell and the port; in addition to mini-Cumberland sausage rolls on arrival, plus tea and coffee to complete the evening. Just some examples of what to expect are wood pigeon, arctic char and of course, Herdwick lamb.

Membership to the Skiddaw Dining Club is free, offering members a 10% discount on tickets for this event which reduces the price to £40 per person. Spaces for this unique event are limited, so early booking is recommended. Tickets can be reserved by contacting the Skiddaw Hotel directly on 017687 72071.
